What is the best way to clean my stainless steel once it has been treated?
When cleaning the
treated stainless steel be careful not to use any rough, gritty or abrasive
cleaners as they may damage the coating. An all purpose cleaner, mild detergent
or a damp microfibre cloth (recommended) is all that is needed to clean the
surface.
How often should I clean the stainless steel once EnduroShield® has been applied?
A quick clean is recommended every one to two
weeks depending on the exposure of surface that the coating has been applied
to.
I live near the ocean. Do I have to do any special maintenance on my stainless steel?
When salt bearing water accumulates on stainless
steel a corrosive condition occurs. This can result in rust-like deposits known
as tea staining. Regularly washing the EnduroShield® protected surface with fresh,
clean water and wiping with a microfibre cloth can control this condition.
My home uses bore water. Do I have to do any special maintenance on my stainless steel?
Bore
water usually contains high concentrations of chloride. Accumulation of this
water on stainless steel creates a corrosive condition. This can result in
rust-like deposits known as tea staining. Regularly washing the EnduroShield®
protected surface with deionised water and wiping with a microfibre cloth can
control this condition.
Will the coating crack, peel or discolour over time?
No
the coating is only 2 molecules thick and is transparent. It will not crack or
discolour over time. It is not like a lacquer or varnish.
Does the coating get damaged by chemicals?
No.
The only way to remove the coating is by removing molecules of stainless steel,
such as scratching the stainless steel or using a rough, gritty, corrosive or
abrasive cleaner. EnduroShield is also affected by strong acids or alkalis.
Will the surface become patchy if the coating is worn off in any way?
If an abrasive was to be used, the worn area
would not be apparent. That area would, however, be harder to clean. The
unprotected surface can be easily repaired by cleaning the area and re-spraying
with EnduroShield®.The molecules will bond directly to the clean, untreated
surface.
Can EnduroShield® be applied to existing stainless steel?
Yes it can. EnduroShield after-market
applicators can apply EnduroShield to new and existing stainless steel
surfaces. When applied, EnduroShield will prevent the surface from
deteriorating and will make it much easier to maintain. In cases where the
stainless steel is permanently stained, the applicator may be able to restore it
back to a near new condition before treating with EnduroShield®.
How can I remove the corrosion/tea staining from my existing stainless steel?
For those areas that have existing corrosion/tea
staining such that is found on BBQ's that have been exposed to salt water, a
restoration compound may be needed to restore the surface before the
EnduroCleanTM pre-cleaner is used.
Does the area to be treated need to be masked?
No,
the product is not corrosive and will not harm fixtures, frames or fittings. In
fact, it will render the surfaces water repellent for a period of time.
Can the coating be damaged?
Yes.
Be careful not to use any rough, gritty, highly acidic, alkaline or abrasive cleaners
as they may damage the protective coating. Cleaners like this damage or polish
back the actual substrate of the surface.
